Here’s why I love slow mornings. It might be tempting to sleep if your kids are sleeping in, but we all know how chaotic it can be to wake up the same time as our kids. We don’t get any “me time” before heading into mom mode. This is why I try to wake up an hour earlier than my daughter everyday. I pick out a mug that matches my mood for the day, I brew a cup of coffee, I sit down and I enjoy some quiet time for myself.

Why I Love Slow Mornings: The Perks

Another reason why I love slow mornings is that it allows me to sneak in some “me time” and reflect about my day before it really gets started. Sometimes I use this time to simply relax on the couch. Other times, I use this time to get ready for my day or get things done around the house. It all depends what we have planned for that particular day. We all know how much longer it takes to get ourselves ready when we are tending to a toddler or baby.

Just picture it: You wake up early, you get to drink your coffee HOT! (if you know, you know), no interruptions, less chance of spilling your coffee and you can literally just sit and breathe for a whole hour. It sounds simple but it’s seriously a luxury in motherhood. The opportunities to do this are few and far between.

Slow mornings give me a sense of calmness that I probably won’t get again until bedtime. It helps me start my day off on a peaceful and positive note and makes me function as a better mom throughout the day. We all know how hard it is to be present in the midst of the chaos, so take this time to practice mindfulness and allow yourself to be more present during the day.

Tips for Starting Your Slow Morning

  1. Get up an hour before your kids.
  2. Pick out your favorite coffee mug or one that matches your mood for the day (this is why I have so many mugs- sorry hubby!)
  3. Brew your coffee and drink it hot or iced if that’s what you prefer
  4. Sit outside if it’s nice out
  5. Read a book, watch your favorite show, online shop
  6. Sit and talk with your spouse if they are home at this time (we do this a lot on the weekends)
  7. Make breakfast (cooking is therapeutic for me)
  8. Catch up on any tasks around the house that might be difficult to do when littles are around
  9. Work out.
  10. Ask yourself, what am I thankful for today?

If you are looking for a way to incorporate some more me time into your day or are tired of feeling rushed and stressed from chaotic mornings, then I encourage you to start incorporating slow mornings into your daily routine. It makes me feel better and I hope it does the same for you. This is why I love slow mornings.

Remember, everyone’s slow morning may look a little different and that’s okay. Do what works for you.
